Itinerary

Day 1: Uluru & Kata Tjuta
Meet your guide and fellow travellers in Alice Springs before heading south into the vast desert landscapes of the Red Centre. Guests flying into Yulara will join the group around midday. Begin your exploration with a walk among the massive domes of Kata Tjuta (The Olga’s). As the day draws to a close, enjoy light refreshments while watching the colours of Uluru shift at sunset, a truly unforgettable introduction to country. Dinner tonight is at your own expense. Stay overnight at Yulara in a hotel room with private ensuite (Ayers Rock Resort).

Day 2: Uluru to Kings Canyon Region
Rise early to witness sunrise at Uluru, followed by a guided base walk where your guide shares stories of Tjukurpa (Anangu law and creation). Visit the Uluru–Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre before travelling along the scenic Luritja Road toward Kings Canyon. Tonight, settle into your glamping accommodation at a remote outback cattle station and take in the vast desert night sky.

Day 3: Kings Canyon Rim Walk & Cultural Experience
An early start rewards you with the iconic Kings Canyon Rim Walk. Traverse towering sandstone walls, hidden rock pools, and lush oasis landscapes as your guide brings the canyon’s ecology and history to life. Highlights include the Lost City, Garden of Eden, and sweeping views from the canyon’s sheer cliffs. In the afternoon, enjoy the Karrke Aboriginal Cultural Experience, with an optional helicopter flight available for a bird’s-eye perspective of the region. Stay the night in ensuite glamping tents (accommodation may vary due to remote location).

Day 4: West MacDonnell Ranges
Travel west along the Mereenie Loop Road (Red Centre Way), entering the ancient landscapes of the West MacDonnell Ranges. Stop at dramatic lookouts and explore highlights including Ormiston Gorge, Ellery Creek Big Hole, and Simpson’s Gap. Enjoy gentle walks and, weather permitting, a refreshing swim before arriving in Alice Springs. After this, enjoy your overnight in a hotel with ensuite bathroom. Dinner tonight is your choice.

Day 5: Alice Springs Town Tour & Departure
Enjoy a slower morning with an opportunity for an optional breakfast to eat local at one of Alice Springs’ eclectic cafes. If you are flying out of Alice Springs early, your guide will provide an early transfer and adjust the tour timing, so you don’t miss your departure. Your guide will take you on a driving town tour of Alice Springs, learning about the region’s history and significance. Take in panoramic views from ANZAC Hill before the tour concludes with complimentary transfers to either Alice Springs Desert Park, your hotel or the Alice Springs airport.

What type of accommodation is provided?
This tour offers comfortable, ensuite accommodation throughout the journey. You will stay in 3–4 star hotels with private ensuite bathrooms in locations such as Yulara (Ayers Rock Resort) and Alice Springs. In the Kings Canyon region, the tour includes a two-night stay at a remote outback cattle station in permanent glamping tents, each with its own ensuite bathroom. This accommodation style provides a balance of comfort and an authentic outback experience.
What weather can I expect in the Red Centre?
The Red Centre has a dry desert climate with significant day–night temperature differences:
  • Summer (Dec–Feb): Very hot, often 35°C+ with occasional storms
  • Autumn (Mar–May): Warm days, cooler nights
  • Winter (Jun–Aug): Cold mornings, mild days
  • Spring (Sep–Nov): Warm to hot conditions leading into summer
What kind of vehicle will I be travelling in?
You will travel in a comfortable, air-conditioned 4WD touring vehicle designed for Central Australian outback conditions.
Will I have phone reception while on tour?
Reception is available near major service centres in the region, but coverage in remote outback areas is limited. All touring vehicles carry a satellite phone for emergencies. This journey is a great opportunity to disconnect and enjoy the desert environment.
Can I smoke or drink in the vehicle?
Smoking and drinking alcohol are not permitted inside the vehicle. Smoking is only allowed during designated stops and in permitted outdoor areas, and all local regulations must be followed.
Is the Mereenie Loop (unsealed, dirt road) always open?
No, not always. The Mereenie Loop (also forming part of what’s referred to as the ‘ Red Centre Way’) can be affected by rains causing wash-outs, and corrugations created by heavy vehicles and trucks. In these instances your guide will assess the situation and may choose to take a longer route by accessing the West MacDonnell Ranges via the sealed roads.
