The towering rainforest mountains that surround Cairns are a place of extraordinary natural beauty, home to ancient flora and fauna. A part of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area they contain tumbling waterfalls, towering trees and deep gorges. On this exclusive full day tour, we’ll show you the best bits, including areas that aren’t accessible to the public, and take a journey on one of our region’s award-winning tourist attractions. The adventure begins with a half day 4WD rainforest / waterfall expedition. We go from the city, to the rainforest and outback savannah. There’s time for a swim and tropical fruit tasting. In the afternoon, there’s 3 hours free time for you to explore Kuranda the Village in the Rainforest. With your choice to return to Cairns on either the award-winning Skyrail Rainforest Cableway or historic Kuranda Scenic Railway.

- Don’t forget to bring your swimming gear
Be collected from your accommodation by one of our experienced, naturalist guides. They’ll drive you up the Kuranda Range, before heading off-road to visit an exclusive section of tropical rainforest. It’s ‘soft’ four wheel driving along unsealed roads and over some of the mountains of the Great Dividing Range. Our route is lined by ancient King Ferns and you get the opportunity to learn more about this ancient rainforest, on a guided tour of the Clohesy Boardwalk. Highlights include seeing a giant strangler fig tree, which is hundreds of years old.
Time to cool down with a refreshing swim, in the crystal-clear waters of Davies Creek. This is a favorite spot with locals in the summer. From here, we visit the Termite Roadside Fruit Stall where you can sample some exotic, tropical fruits, before we continue on to Kuranda, the Village in the Rainforest. This is where our guide leaves you, with 3 hours of free time to wander and explore, before you return to Cairns on either Skyrail Rainforest Cableway or Kuranda Scenic Railway.
Skyrail is an award-winning tourist attraction, which glides over the rainforest for 7.5km between its Kuranda and Caravonica Terminals. It provides panoramic views with the chance to explore more, at two rainforest mid-stations on Ranger guided tours or with interpretive signage. It also has a cantilevered walkway over the Barron Gorge with amazing views of the Barron Falls. The historic Kuranda Scenic Railway is another award winner, popular with people of all ages. It tracks through the Barron Gorge National Park with amazing views and a stop at Barron Falls. Regardless of your preferred journey back, coach transfers are provided to your Cairns city accommodation.
