Today is a relaxing day of touring and sightseeing, on two of the most awarded, land-based tourist attractions in the region. Skyrail Rainforest Cableway and Kuranda Scenic Railway provide different, but complementary experiences in the Barron Gorge National Park. Both have terminals in Kuranda and are easily packaged to provide a fantastic day tour.

In the morning, you depart on the Kuranda Scenic Railway, which takes you to Kuranda.

This historic railway delivers a comfortable ride through the Barron Gorge Park. It includes a stop at Barron Falls and passes through many tunnels, which were hand made during its construction, more than 100 years ago. An informative commentary details its history and interesting landmarks.

Enjoy 3-hours free time in Kuranda, the Village in the Rainforest. This eclectic village delivers retail therapy in all its forms, at shops and in the two markets. From fashion and jewelry, to homewares, local produce, art, craft and so much more. There are also numerous tourist attractions you might like to see (at your own expense), including the Australian Butterfly Sanctuary, Kuranda Koala Gardens and Birdworld. Feeling hungry? Cafes, pubs, restaurants and food stalls operate throughout the day.

Board the Skyrail, which takes you on a 7.5km cableway journey, gliding just metres over the treetops. There are two rainforest mid-stations where you can alight from the cableway and explore the rainforest on boardwalks and pathways. Take a Ranger guided tour at Red Peak Station and make sure you visit the cantilevered walkway out over the Barron Gorge, at the Barron Falls Station. All up, the trip takes around 90-minutes.

Arrive back at your hotel at around 5.30-6pm.

Get ready to explore the ancient World Heritage listed Daintree Rainforest. Today we collect you in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle and head north on the Great Barrier Reef Drive. Mossman Gorge is our first official destination. A beautiful gorge carved out by the Mossman River and tumbled with large granite boulders. You have the chance to swim in its cool, clear waters, before we continue to Daintree Village for a restaurant lunch with a range of meals available.

After lunch, enjoy a 1-hour cruise on the Daintree River where you might see crocodiles, birdlife, turtles and more. We then cross the river on a cable ferry and head deep into the rainforest. A guided boardwalk tour allows you to see more of this complex, tropical environment up close. Our most northern point of the day is Cape Tribulation beach, the only place on earth where two natural World Heritage sites – the reef and rainforest – exist side by side. From there we retrace our steps to Cairns, but not before a final stop at a local Daintree Ice-Cream Company where you’ll be tempted with unique, tropical flavours (which can be purchased at your own expense).

DAY 6. GREAT BARRIER REEF FULL DAY TOUR

Enjoy up to 6 hours at the reef, visiting 2 separate reef sites. Unlimited snorkeling, including equipment and instruction, and the chance for a scuba dive.

There’s also time for you to relax on the boat and enjoy the weather. Meals and refreshments are available and included throughout the day.
